GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs semi-professional nursing duties in the care and treatment of patients in a hospital or institution; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician, the duties require the use of tact and judgment in the care of and treatment of patients. May assist in the supervision of non-professional subordinates.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Assists in the total physical care of patients.
2.Administers simple medications as prescribed.
3.Performs treatments as prescribed.
4.Collects specimens as prescribed.
5.Charts and records the care and administration of medication and treatments.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of basic practical nursing theory and related techniques.
2.Knowledge of materials used and the processes involved in patient care procedures.
3.Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
4.Ability to maintain records and charts.
5.Ability to maintain a sympathetic attitude toward patients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing;
or
2.Completion of equivalent study in an approved program in professional nursing.

Necessary Special Requirement
Possession of a current license or the eligibility to be licensed to practice as a practical nurse in the State of New York.
