GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs and participates in painting buildings, fixtures and equipment in an institution or public agency; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, the position requires the use of judgment and skill and the work is reviewed for accuracy and completeness. Supervision of a small number of maintenance painters may be required.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Prepares surfaces by burning, sandpapering and scraping; applies surfacing when required.
2.Mixes and matches paints and stains.
3.Applies paint, stain, varnish and other finishes to interiors and exteriors of buildings, fixtures or equipment using spray gun, roller or brushes.
4.Caulks window frames, door frames or louvers as required.
5.Rigs and erects scaffolding, hauls and erects ladders and spreads drop cloths.
6.Cleans spray guns, brushes and other painting equipment.
7.May be required to supervise maintenance painters and other assigned personnel.
8.Performs non-painting maintenance and repair tasks as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in the painting trade.
2.Skill in the care and use of painting tools, equipment and materials.
3.Skill in the application of paints and other finishes with brushes, spray guns and rollers to a variety of surfaces.
4.Ability to perform a variety of non-painting maintenance and repair tasks as required.
5.Ability to prepare surfaces to be painted and to mix and match paints.
6.Ability to rig and erect scaffolding and to work at heights from scaffolding and ladders.
7.Ability to supervise maintenance painters and other assigned personnel.
8.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Completion of vocational school training in painting;
and
2.Three years of satisfactory experience under a skilled journeyman painter;
or
3.Five years of satisfactory experience under a skilled journeyman painter.
