GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Assists professional occupational therapist in selecting and conducting therapeutic activities and programs for mentally and physically ill patients; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, the duties require the use of judgment in evaluating patient progress, and their interest in various activities.

TYPICAL DUTIES
*1.Instructs patients in sewing, knitting, crocheting, weaving, ceramics, wood and metal working, and other applied arts.
*2.Prepares materials for craft work.
*3.Observes the progress and reaction of patients, and prepares reports on patients' progress.
*4.Performs minor repairs and adjustments on equipment.
*5.Devises special tools to meet needs of patients, as required.
6.Cleans work area and transports patients, as required.

*ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of the principles and practices of occupational therapy.
2.Knowledge of occupational and recreational materials and equipment.
3.Knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations and measures.
4.Skill in various types of manual arts and crafts.
5.Ability to perform simple analyses regarding occupational needs, and progress of patients.
6.Ability to supervise patients in a variety of productive activities.
7.Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
8.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
9.Ability to express oneself effective, both orally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Continuing possession of a current, valid certificate as an Occupational Therapy Assistant issued by New York State Department of Education.
