GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Installs, maintains, and repairs power lines carrying primary high voltages; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the use of judgment in performing skilled technical duties.

TYPICAL DUTIES
*
1.Strings cable from pole to pole or to building with assistance of ground crew.
*
2.Instructs and assists ground helpers in erecting poles in holes.
*
3.Climbs pole and attaches cross arms to pole; nails, screws, or bolts insulators, lightning arresters, transformers, and other auxiliary equipment to pole structure or building.
*
4.Installs and maintains underground power lines by pulling wire, installing transformers and preparing them for operation, making stress cones, installing racks, and hooking up underground wiring for street lights.
*
5.Installs and sets electric meters; installs new wire from house to line; replaces burned out meters, service wires, and/or meter block fuses.
*
6.Installs and maintains fire alarm and traffic signal systems and street lights, as required.
*
7.Splices and solders cable for connections, as required.
8.Recommends purchase of new equipment, as required.

*TYPICAL ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the installation of primary high voltage power lines and auxiliary equipment.
2.Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the installation and maintenance of primary high voltage lines.
3.Ability to climb poles.
4.Ability to use adequate safety measures, devices, and precautions while working with high voltage electrical circuits.
5.Ability to understand and follow instructions.
6.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Completion of eighth grade education
and
Two years of satisfactory experience installing and/or maintaining power lines and/or poles;
or
2.Graduation from high school
and
One year of experience as described in one (1) above.
