GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Admits and discharges hospital patients; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the use of judgment in processing patients and the work is reviewed for accuracy and completeness.

TYPICAL DUTIES

Screens admission calls as to degree of emergency and eligibility.
2.
Dispatches ambulances.
*3.Interviews patients or families to obtain personal data.
*4Explains hospital regulations, assigns patients to wards.
*5Receives and processes death notices; secures autopsy permission; makes arrangements to release bodies.
*6Receives and processes birth notices.
7.
Answers queries regarding patients' condition.
*8Takes census of patients admitted and discharged.
*9Performs duties requiring limited use of the typewriter.

*ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of hospital admission policies and procedures.
2.Knowledge of hospital emergency procedures.
3.Skill and ability in dealing with people in stress situations.
4.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
5.Ability to type at a rate of speed that demonstrates familiarity with the operation of the typewriter.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Graduation from high school
and
Two years of general satisfactory office experience in a hospital or health-related environment.

NOTE:1. Experience, as outlined above, in excess of the two-year requirement, may be substituted for
high school education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years.
2.Education at a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
(30 credits) may be substituted for one year of the above-mentioned experience.
