GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs and participates in repairing locks and making keys in a public agency or institution; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the position requires use of judgment and skill and the work is reviewed for quality, accuracy and completeness. Supervision of a small number of maintenance locksmiths may be required.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Installs, adjusts, services and repairs a wide variety of locks and related equipment.
2.Selects key blanks, cuts keys, fits keys to locks and makes master keys.
3.Unlocks doors, lockers and other equipment when keys are lost or broken, when combinations are lost or when locks are broken.
4.Maintains a record of all keys and list of the location of all locks on doors, cabinets, lockers and other equipment.
5.Changes combinations of locks when necessary.
6.Adjusts and repairs door latches, door checks, file cabinets, desks, lockers and a variety of other equipment.
7.Supervises maintenance locksmiths and other assigned personnel, as required.
8.Performs a variety of non-locksmith maintenance and repair tasks as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in the locksmithing trade.
2.Considerable knowledge of the operation and repair of a variety of locks.
3.Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment used in the repair of locks and making of keys.
4.Ability to make keys and to repair a wide variety of locks and related equipment.
5.Ability to supervise maintenance locksmiths and other assigned personnel.
6.Ability to keep simple records and follow oral instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Completion of vocational school training in servicing and repairing locks
and
Five years of satisfactory experience in the locksmith trade;
or
2.Seven years of satisfactory experience in the locksmith trade.
