GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Supervises and coordinates the activities of subordinate personnel engaged in the care and maintenance of the grounds of a large public institution or complex of public buildings; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require organizing, coordinating, and directing activities of subordinate supervisors engaged in routine, repetitive tasks requiring the limited use of judgment.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Supervises, assigns, inspects, and coordinates the activities of subordinate groundskeeping personnel.
2.Estimates and requisitions groundskeeping supplies and equipment.
3.Supervises the maintenance of tennis courts, ball diamonds, benches, tables, and other accessories.
4.Recommends and implements new landscaping designs, and supervises planting of flower beds.
5.Trains and orients new groundskeeping personnel.
6.Supervises the maintenance of motorized and related equipment used in groundskeeping operation.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Thorough knowledge of the techniques and equipment used in the care and maintenance of public grounds.
2.Thorough knowledge of the care of lawns, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
3.Ability to supervise, assign, and coordinate subordinate personnel engaged in groundskeeping activities, and in the maintenance of motorized groundskeeping equipment.
4.Ability to plan, recommend, and implement new landscaping.
5.Ability to keep records and follow oral and written instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Ability to read, write, and speak English;
and
Six years of satisfactory experience in the care and maintenance of public grounds, including some experience in the care and maintenance of motorized groundskeeping equipment and two years experience in a supervisory capacity.

Necessary Special Requirement
Appropriate motor vehicle operator's license issued by New York State.
