1. | Manages and monitors all aspects of quality assurance for the unit. | |

7. | Performs complex macro- and microscopic documentation and qualitative analysis of physical evidence collected from crime, incident, and vehicular accident scenes. | |
8. | Performs complex physical tests to analyze and reconstruct blood stain patterns and bullet trajectory. | |
9. | Performs complex presumptive chemical tests for blood, semen, projectile components, and gunshot residues. | |
10. | Performs and utilizes complex nondestructive enhancement and documentation techniques at scenes and in the laboratory including the use of film and digital cameras/video recorders, color contrast filters, and specialized illumination techniques. | |
11. | Meets with attorneys, investigators and other related personnel regarding approaches to analysis and results in pretrial conferences. | |
12. | Participates in scientific meetings, seminars, and other training as assigned. | |
13. | Interprets test results, keeps records of observations and notes, and issues reports of test results. | |
14. | Testifies in court regarding laboratory analyses and the significance of the results as required. | |
15. | Performs housekeeping tasks as required, including maintaining related supplies and reference materials. | |
16. | Trains or oversees training for subordinate laboratory personnel and maintains training records. | |
17. | Responsible for the inventory, maintenance, storage, and disposition of evidence. |

18. | Participates in internal and external proficiency testing programs. | |

2. | Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory techniques, analysis, equipment, and procedures including, but not limited to, macro- and microscopic documentation and analysis of physical evidence. | |
3. | Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of crime scene reconstruction, including but not limited to, blood stain pattern analysis and bullet trajectory analysis. | |
4. | Comprehensive knowledge in the use of standard crime scene and laboratory equipment including high-intensity, tunable wavelength light sources, microscopes, lasers, photography and videography equipment. | |
5. | Comprehensive knowledge of penal law and rules of evidence collection and retention as it applies to crime, incident, and vehicular accident scene reconstruction. | |
6. | Skill in the use of laboratory equipment related to crime, incident, and vehicular accident scene reconstruction. | |

1. | Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with a Master's Degree, which must have included at least twelve (12) credit hours in one of the natural sciences, forensic sciences or engineering sciences, with five (5) years of full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in a forensic laboratory which must have included crime, incident, and/or vehicular accident scene reconstruction; OR |
2. | Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree, which must have included at least twelve (12) credit hours in one of the natural sciences, forensic sciences or engineering sciences, with six (6) years of full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in a forensic laboratory which must have included crime, incident, and/or vehicular accident scene reconstruction; OR |
3. | An equivalent combination of training and experience that is defined by the limits of (1) and (2) above. |
NOTE: | Incumbents must pass a competency test prior to assuming casework responsibility, and must pass a proficiency test annually, in accordance with accreditation requirements. |
