1. | Performs skilled repair work on gasoline or diesel powered fire trucks, automobiles, and other apparatus. |
2. | Repairs, overhauls, or replaces transmissions, valves, clutches, brakes, hydraulic systems, generators, ignition systems, pumps, aerial ladders and towers, and other fire fighting equipment. |
3. | Performs some body and painting work. |
4. | Performs periodic inspections and tunes up equipment to insure proper functioning. |
5. | Performs emergency road service. |
6. | Prepares records and reports on work accomplished. |
1. | Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, and equipment used in fire apparatus repair and maintenance. |
2. | Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment employed in repairing and adjusting fire apparatus and automotive equipment. |
3. | Knowledge of principles of operation and maintenance of gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines and hydraulic systems. |
4. | Ability to locate, diagnose, and repair defects and malfunctions in fire apparatus and automotive equipment. |
5. | Ability to keep simple records and to follow oral and written instructions. |
1. | Completion of technical school training in fire apparatus maintenance and Four years of satisfactory experience in the repair of automobiles, trucks, or other heavy equipment, including two years in the repair and maintenance of fire apparatus; or |
2. | Six years of satisfactory experience in the repair of automobiles, trucks, or other heavy equipment, including four years in the repair and maintenance of fire apparatus. |
