GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs one or more of a wide variety of maintenance tasks in the upkeep of buildings, machinery, furniture, metalwork, electrical, steam and automotive equipment, signs, and similar property and tools; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision,, the duties require the use of judgment and skill in performing a variety of routine maintenance activities. The work is reviewed for accuracy and completeness.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.
Prepares and paints or varnishes interior or exterior building surfaces and playground and park equipment.
2.
Repairs, cleans, and assists in the installation of plumbing, heating, refrigeration, laundry, and sewerage equipment and machinery.
3.
Cuts and threads pipes, resets sanitary fixtures, makes minor repairs to pipe lines, installs locks, refinishes furniture, and makes concrete forms.
4.
Uses a variety of hand and power tools in construction, remodeling, or repairing doors, window frames, floors, cabinets, furniture, moldings, scaffolds, and steps.
5.
Inspects, disassembles, repairs, and reassembles automotive or electrical machinery and equipment.
6.
Repairs or replaces machine parts or tools using a lathe or other machine tools.
7.
Performs cutting and welding operations on machinery or parts.
8.
Inspects, repairs, and installs a wide variety of electrical equipment, fixtures, and wiring.
9.
Mixes and applies cement or plaster to floors, walls, and ceilings; lays bricks and tiles, finishes tile flooring, and repairs tile roofs.
10.
Maintains and plants shrubs, trees, and grass and performs other grounds maintenance work.
11.
Removes snow and plows, sands, and salts roads and erects and removes snow fences.
12.
Operates a variety of automotive and maintenance equipment such as trucks, tractors, sweepers, mowers, rollers, etc.
13.
Makes signs by silk screening process; lays out and letters road signs, truck identifications and door signs; may restore and repair used or damaged signs.
14.
Keeps working tools and equipment and work area clean and in good condition.
15.
Supervises unskilled or semi-skilled personnel assigned to assist in performing one or more of the maintenance duties illustrated above, as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of construction and maintenance materials, methods, and equipment.
2.Ability to perform a variety of routine maintenance and repair tasks and to assist in difficult tasks.
3.Ability to use tools effectively.
4.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
5.Ability to direct and supervise personnel assigned to assist in performing maintenance tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Graduation from a vocational or trade school
and
One year of satisfactory experience in performing general or specialized maintenance and repair tasks in buildings and on various types of machinery, equipment, furniture, signs and tools;
or
2.Three years of satisfactory experience as outlined above.
