GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Supervises the construction, maintenance, and repair of wooden articles, equipment, and structures in an institution or public agency; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require planning and directing the skilled activities of subordinate personnel.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Supervises the installation, alteration, repair, and maintenance of a variety of wooden articles and equipment.
2.Prepares and interprets sketches and drawings.
3.Inspects completed work for accuracy and completeness.
4.Prepares time and equipment estimates.
5.Submits requisitions for parts and equipment; inspects quality of wood.
6.Participates in difficult installation, repair and maintenance work.
7.Instructs carpenters and helpers in proper methods and procedures.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in the carpentry trade.
2.Considerable knowledge of the qualities and uses of various woods.
3.Skill in the care and use of carpentry tools and equipment.
4.Ability to interpret and prepare sketches and drawings.
5.Ability to prepare time and equipment estimates and to keep records and prepare reports.
6.Ability to perform difficult installation, alteration, repair, and maintenance work.
7.Ability to supervise and instruct carpenters and other assigned personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Completion of vocational school training
and
Six years of satisfactory experience as a carpenter or carpenter's helper, two of which must have been at the journeyman's level;
or
2.Eight years of satisfactory experience as a carpenter or carpenter's helper, two of which must have been at the journeyman's level.
