GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Under direction, assists the Superintendent of Public Works and acts for him in planning, directing and supervising a village public works program. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Transmits and interprets orders and instructions from the Superintendent to subordinates; acts in his capacity during that individual's absence.
2.Inspects operations; reviews progress of work and performance of subordinates; reports to Superintendent of progress and completion of projects.
3.Investigates complaints from residents involving the work of the public works department; personally corrects the problem situation or recommends appropriate action.
4.Exercises responsibility for the maintenance and proper repair of highway and sanitation equipment; recommends replacement or purchase of parts, supplies and equipment.
5.May supervise the operation and maintenance of water treatment and/or sewage treatment plants.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Extensive knowledge of public works construction, maintenance and repair.
2.Extensive knowledge of operations of public utilities and public works facilities.
3.Working knowledge of administrative procedures.
4.Where required, thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of modern water treatment and/or sewage treatment plants.
5.Ability to plan, lay out and coordinate assigned phases of work projects.
6.Ability to keep records and prepare reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Graduation from high school and six years of progressively responsible experience in public works and/or construction, including at least one year in a supervisory or administrative capacity;
or
2.Satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
