GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Directs all areas of environmental services, including housekeeping; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the exercise of considerable independent judgment in directing all areas of environmental services, including housekeeping.

TYPICAL DUTIES

Directs all areas of environmental services, including housekeeping.

2.
Maintains controls for all areas of environmental services, including but not limited to, housekeeping, laundry, groundskeeping, infection control, hazardous waste control, pest control, service and repair needs, and preventive maintenance.
*
3.
Supervises the work of subordinate supervisors and workers in all areas of environmental services; supervises the recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation of same.
*
4.
Supervises and participates in scheduling and staffing of all environmental services.
*
5.
Evaluates and develops performance standards and productivity goals.
*
6.
Confers with department heads to coordinate and integrate environmental services with related public health and safety programs and maintenance services.
*
7.
Surveys buildings and grounds to determine needed service and repairs, evaluate operations and make recommendations; takes corrective action as needed.
*
8.
Monitors hazard surveillance and compliance with Federal, State, local health and safety regulations and regulatory agencies including the Joint Commission, New York State Department of Health and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

9.
Serves on committees for safety, infection control, hazardous waste control, pest control, planning, Service Excellence and patient satisfaction; reviews current literature and supervises implementation of new developments and changing regulations.

Contributes to policy and procedure development and revision.

11.
Reviews and monitors budget requests and estimates; prepares annual budget for staffing and materials for all environmental services.
12.
Recommends, selects and requisitions equipment and supplies; supervises inventory control.

Supervises the preparation and maintenance of records; prepares reports as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques utilized in conducting effective environmental services, including housekeeping, laundry, groundskeeping, infection control, hazardous waste control, pest control, service and repair needs, and preventive maintenance.
2.Extensive knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in all areas of environmental services operations including housekeeping, laundry, groundskeeping, infection control, hazardous waste control, pest control, service and repair needs, and preventive maintenance.
3.Thorough knowledge of Federal, State, local and accrediting body standards, laws and regulations relevant to environmental services.
4.Knowledge of the principles and practices of budget control and management.
5.Ability to plan, organize, supervise and evaluate the work of subordinate supervisory personnel.
6.Ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
And
Seven years of satisfactory supervisory and/or administrative housekeeping experience in a healthcare setting.

NOTE: Experience, as outlined above, in excess of the seven-year requirement, may be
substituted for college education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four
years.
