GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs administrative work in the Office of the Medical Examiner; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the exercise of judgment in performing administrative work in the Office of the Medical Examiner.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.
Performs departmental administrative work in the Office of the Medical Examiner.
2.
Carries out all necessary functions associated with the Office of the Medical Examiner personnel program.
3.
Assists in compilation and preparation of budget information and estimates, fiscal and statistical reports.
4.
Participates in procurement activities.
5.
Monitors contractual services and recommends appropriate actions, as required.
6.
Conducts research and prepares detailed and comprehensive reports of findings and recommendations.
7.
Interviews applicants; makes selections for appointing officers.
8.
Advises employees on health insurance, retirement and other employee benefits, wages and salary; arranges for medicals.
9.
Performs public relations and liaison duties.
10.
Responds to correspondence.
11.
Reviews and edits reports and decisions issued by the department.
12.
Assists in establishing operational methods and procedures, and in coordinating the services of the Office with other county, state, public and private agencies.
13.
Supervises subordinate personnel, as required.
14.
Represents the Chief Medical Examiner on Human Resources matters., as required.

1.Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration.
2.Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public personnel administration.
3.Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of office management.
4.Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of effective interviewing.
5.Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures relating to health insurance, retirement and other employee benefits.
6.Ability to implement administrative procedures and operations.
7.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, subordinates, officials and the public.
8.Ability to supervise subordinates.
9.Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting departmental policies and procedures.
10.Ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university,
and
Four years of satisfactory administrative staff experience, which must include participating in budget preparation and/or personnel and/or procurement activities.

NOTE:1.Experience, as outlined above, in excess of the four-year requirement, may be substituted for college education on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years.
2.A Master's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university may be substituted for one year of experience, as outlined above.
