GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs microscopic examinations of genital and extragenital cellular material for detection of malignant cells; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the position is highly technical and requires the ability to recognize normal and malignant cells in genital and extragenital cytologic preparations.

TYPICAL DUTIES
*1.Supervises preparation of cytologic material for microscopic study.
*2.Examines genital and extragenital cellular material for presence of malignant cells.
*3.Assembles and marks interesting cases for photographing; writes descriptive summaries.
4.Refers all cases of abnormal cells to supervisor for further examination.
5.Maintains records on atypical, suspicious, and malignant specimens.

*ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of cytology.
2.Considerable knowledge of the operation and care of specialized laboratory equipment.
3.Skill in manipulative techniques in following standard laboratory methods.
4.Ability to maintain records.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Continuing possession of a current, valid, license to practice as a Cytotechnologist issued by the New York State Education Department,
and, either
A.Three years of satisfactory, full-time, experience as a Cytotechnologist in an approved cytology laboratory,
or
B.Registration as a Cytotechnologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) and
Two years of satisfactory, full-time, experience as a Cytotechnologist in an approved cytology laboratory;
OR
2.Possession of a permit to practice as a Cytotechnologist at the Nassau Health Care Corporation issued by the New York State Education Department,
and, either
A.Three years of satisfactory, full-time, experience as a Cytotechnologist in an approved cytology laboratory,
or
