GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
This is a competitive class trainee position. The period of trainee service shall not be less than one year nor more than two years from the date of appointment from an appropriate eligible list, the service to be of such designated length as to satisfy the training and experience requirements for Complaint Investigator. Upon satisfactory completion of the designated trainee service, which also serves as the probationary period, a Complaint Investigator Trainee shall attain permanent status as a Complaint Investigator.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, the incumbent receives training in making determinations and securing compliance with Village laws, codes, and ordinances; performs related duties as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES
*1.Learns and assists in the investigation of complaints regarding violations of ordinances, codes, and laws relating to clearing, filling, and sanitary conditions of vacant land, improper signs, and apartment house parking.
2.Learns and assists in advising and providing information to the public on legal requirements.
*3.Assists in issuing violation notices and in posting legal notices as required.
*4.Learns and assists in recommending and instituting corrective action.
5.Learns and assists in making follow-up inspections to verify elimination of violations.
6.Learns and assists in preparing and submitting reports of investigations.
*7.Learns and assists in maintaining records and files.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Ability to learn local zoning laws and applicable regulations and ordinances.
2.Ability to learn effective methods of investigation.
3.Ability to understand, interpret, and enforce compliance with statutory requirements.
4.Ability to follow instructions, both orally and in writing.
5.Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Graduation from high school.

Necessary Special Requirement
Continuing possession of an appropriate class, valid New York State Driver License.

NOTE:Trainee positions are subject to Rules XVII and XIX of the Nassau County Civil Service Rules in relation to the terms of probation.
