GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Appears before local courts and performs all functions of the Deputy County Attorneys; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under the direct supervision of a Deputy County Attorney, law school graduates may serve for a period as prescribed in Judiciary Law, Article 15, §478, while awaiting notification for admission to the Bar of the State of New York and will receive intensive in-court training before performing any function.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Appears in court on calendar calls.
2.Conducts examinations before trial.
3.Conducts arguments pertaining to appeals before the appellate courts.
4.Prepares legal briefs, memoranda of law, and other legal documents for submission to courts and tribunals.
5.Assists Deputy County Attorneys in the presentation of matters before courts and tribunals.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of basic legal principles, practices, and procedures.
2.Knowledge of applicable statutes, laws, Court decisions, and rulings pertaining to violations of laws.
3.Ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing.
4.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental and Court staffs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Possession of a law degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
and
Participation in first available written examination to practice law in the State of New York. In the event of failure to pass the initial examination, appointment may be made or continue, contingent upon taking and passing the next available examination.

NOTE:Disapproval by the Committee on Character and Fitness shall result in termination in the position.
