GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Participates in a technical course of study in laboratory procedures and techniques to satisfy the training and experience requirements for Cytotechnologist I; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, the position is limited to one year during which the work is reviewed for completeness and accuracy.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Attends formal lectures pertaining to laboratory procedures and techniques.
2.Participates in procedures involving diagnostic tests of original function by the examination of cellular material for presence of malignant cells.
3.Learns the methods for record keeping, indexing, and in the methods of correlating cytologic findings with pathological tissue diagnoses.
4.Works with cytology study sets to learn screening techniques.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Some knowledge of the principles and practices of cytology.
2.Ability to learn the basic principles, techniques and practices of laboratory procedures.
3.Ability to learn to operate various types of equipment used in laboratory work.
4.Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports on test performed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Successful completion of two years in an accredited college or university with at least 12 semester hours in biology courses pertinent to the medical sciences.
