GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures in an institution or public agency; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, the position requires use of judgment and skill, and the work is reviewed for quality, accuracy, and completeness.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Makes repairs to electrical motors, fire alarm systems, lights, power circuits, appliances, generators, and a variety of other electrical equipment.
2.Troubleshoots, locates, and corrects power failures and short circuits.
3.Installs open and concealed wiring and lighting fixtures.
4.Makes emergency repairs to elevators, generators, and other electrical apparatus.
5.Performs a variety of preventive maintenance on a variety of electrical apparatus, appliances, and equipment.
6.Makes work time estimates, and keeps simple records.
7.Performs a variety of non-electrical maintenance and repair tasks, as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the electrician's trade.
2.Knowledge of the New York Board of Fire Underwriters Code and other relevant regulations regarding electrical installation.
3.Skill in the care and use of electrician's tools and equipment.
4.Ability to install, alter, repair, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of electrical apparatus, appliances, and equipment.
5.Ability to interpret and work from technical sketches and blueprints.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Completion of vocational school training;
and
Four years of satisfactory experience in the electrician's trade;
or
2.Six years of satisfactory experience in the electrician's trade.
