GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Assists in maintaining safe conditions, in rescue operations, and in rendering first aid at a swimming pool; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, the duties require prompt and effective action in emergency situations.

TYPICAL DUTIES
*1.Assists in the rescue of helpless swimmers, the administration of first aid, and the application of resuscitation measures, when necessary.
*2.Receives training in the maintenance of safe conditions.
3.Learns to patrol swimming pool and observe activities.
4.Receives training in the enforcement of safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents or injuries.
5.Receives training in the maintenance of first aid supplies and resuscitation equipment so that they will be ready for immediate use.
6.Learns to prepare accident reports.
7.Assists in giving swimming instructions.

*TYPICAL ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of first aid, rescue, and resuscitation techniques and equipment.
2.Knowledge of rules and regulations governing the use of water facilities.
3.Considerable swimming skill.
4.Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
No experience required.

Necessary Special Requirements
1.Must be at least fifteen years of age prior to appointment.
2.Must be in satisfactory medical condition as attested to by a physician. Vision must be at least 20/70 in one eye, corrected to 20/40.
3.Continuing possession of the appropriate grade, current, valid lifeguard certificate issued by the Nassau County Department of Health or the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums.
4.Continuing possession of a current, valid CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certificate issued by the American Red Cross or a New York State Department of Health accepted equivalent certificate.
