GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Acts as legal advisor for the Office of the Medical Examiner and serves as liaison between the Chief Medical Examiner and laboratory staff; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties involve the exercise of independent judgment in acting as legal advisor for the Office of the Medical Examiner and in serving as liaison between the Chief Medical Examiner and laboratory staff.

TYPICAL DUTIES
*1.Acts as legal advisor for the Office of the Medical Examiner and serves as liaison between the Chief Medical Examiner and laboratory staff.
2.Reviews and interprets proposed and existing legislation related to the activities of the Office of the Medical Examiner.
*3.Acts as liaison between inter and intra departmental entities; consolidates efforts and fosters communication and cooperation.
4.Represents the Office of the Medical Examiner at public and official meetings.
*5.Corresponds with other agencies to ensure the efficient functioning of the department.
*6.Composes material that requires planning, organizing, and experience, analyses findings, draws conclusions and makes recommendations.

*ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Extensive knowledge of the Federal, State, and County laws pertaining to the Office of the Medical Examiner.
2.Extensive knowledge of the techniques, practices, and procedures related to the practice of law.
3.Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in advising the Chief Medical Examiner and laboratory staff on legal matters.
4.Ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing.
5.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, officials and the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Law degree from an accredited college or university
and
Ten years of satisfactory experience in the practice of criminal law.

Necessary Special Requirement
Admission to the Bar of the State of New York.
