GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Operates machine tools for the fabrication and repair of metal items of machinery and equipment; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, the position requires skill and the use of judgment and the work is reviewed for quality, accuracy and completeness.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Shapes metal object, using lathes, shapers, planers, slotters, power saws, milling machines, drill presses or other similar metal working power equipment; uses tapes, dips, reamers, files and other hand tools.
2.Uses micrometer and other precision measuring instruments.
3.Dismantles equipment and makes repairs to wide variety of appliances, tools, furnishings and other metal objects.
4.Makes machinery and equipment repairs and adjustments in shop or in field.
5.Uses electric and acetylene welders or soldering irons in making repairs.
6.Assembles and tests equipment.
7.Performs a variety of non-mechanical maintenance and repair tasks as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in the machinist trade.
2.Knowledge of the operation and repair of a wide variety of machine tools and machine equipment.
3.Skill in the care and use of a wide variety of metal working hand tools.
4.Ability to work from sketches, blueprints and models.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Completion of vocational school training in machinery;
and
2.Four years of satisfactory experience as a machinist under a skilled journeyman machinist;
or
3.Six years of satisfactory experience under a skilled journeyman.
