GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Plans, assigns, and inspects the activities of highway crews engaged in maintaining and repairing roads and related highway structures; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the use of judgment in planning, coordinating, and directing the activities of subordinate personnel.

TYPICAL DUTIES

1.
Supervises the maintenance and repair of roads, shoulders, bridges, culverts, drain and pipe lines, catch basins, and other related structures.
*
2.
Supervises and participates in snow removal and ice control activities.
*
3.
Supervises opening of roads after a storm or other emergency.
*
4.
Plans and assigns work, and supervises the operation of road maintenance equipment.
*
5.
Supervises garage and yard work.
*
6.
Makes road inspections and checks progress of work periodically and upon completion.
*
7.
Investigates complaints and accidents related to condition of roads and bridges, and reports thereon.
*
8.
Maintains time and work material records.
*
9.
Requisitions supplies and equipment.
10.
Gathers information for special reports, as required.

*ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Considerable knowledge of materials, equipment, and procedures used in the repair and maintenance of highways, bridges, and related structures.
2.Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of heavy automotive equipment.
3.Ability to assign, supervise, coordinate, and inspect the activities of subordinates.
4.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
5.Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
6.Ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing.
7.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Completion of eighth grade education
and
Two years of satisfactory experience maintaining and repairing highways and/or related structure.
