GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs professional physical therapy evaluation and treatment; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under supervision, the duties require the use of judgment in applying professional physical therapy practices and policies.

TYPICAL DUTIES
*
1.
Performs professional physical therapy treatments for patients in homes, hospitals, nursing homes, and other institutions.
*
2.
Makes diagnostic and evaluation tests to determine treatment, and assists in diagnosis and prognosis.
*
3.
Provides training in activities of daily living with or without the use of prosthetics or other equipment.
*
4.
Interprets reaction of patients and adjusts the length and intensity of the treatment, and determines when patient has reached maximum benefit from treatment.
*
5.
Maintains an accurate record of each patient.
6.
Demonstrates techniques and teaches objectives of physical therapy to other health personnel, operators of nursing homes, hospitals, and other institutions.

7.
Instructs persons in home care of handicapped patients.
*
8.
Maintains equipment in proper working order and requests repairs when needed.
9.
Cooperates with other departments, schools and community agencies.
*
10.Uses physical, chemical, and mechanical means including, but not limited to, electricity, ultrasound, water, mobilization, heat, and cold in treatment and evaluation.

*ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, materials, and equipment used in physical therapy.
2.Knowledge of the possible hazards to patients during treatment, and of necessary precautionary and remedial measures.
3.Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
4.Skill in the application of physical therapy techniques.
5.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the patient and the patient's family.
6.Ability to understand, interpret, and adapt physicians' prescriptions of physical therapy treatments.
7.Ability to demonstrate and teach techniques of physical therapy to local health personnel and patients' families.
8.Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports of treatments administered.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Continuing possession of a license as a physical therapist issued by the New York State Department of Education.

NOTE: In lieu of the above, possession of a limited permit to practice at the Nassau Health Care Corporation is acceptable.
